Vegetable Tanning

We source the leather for our covers from Conceria Walpier, a tannery in Tuscany, Italy. The leather is tanned using traditional vegetable tanning process with tree barks that goes back 100's of years. No harsh chemicals are used in the process.

The tannery is a member of the exclusive 'Pelle Vegetale Consortium,' in which tannery-members conform to traditional vegetable tanning methods. We package our leather products with a ‘Pelle Vegetable Consortium’ tag that certifies its genuineness.

The leather for the loop is from Wicket & Craig, one of America's oldest tanneries, who use similar vegetable tanning methods.

Unique Character

The leather we source is "full-grain" leather, which means it is the highest quality of leather you can find. It is the outer layer of the hide that has not been sanded or buffed to remove imperfections. Full grain leather is prized for its natural grain and texture, which gives it a distinctive look and patina that develops over time. The leather will appear to have blemishes, but what that represents is the unique character of the leather that makes the product uniquely yours.

Tannery Markings

Your leather product may come with markings such as the ones you see on this image. This is not a product defect. These marking come from the tannery and indicate its genuineness. Only a handful of products will carry such markings, so keep your fingers crossed!
